I have a Minnkota 65 PD/AP Co-Pilot & Universal Transducer. When I am trolling or drifting in shallow water up to about 15 to 20 ft. the transducer works fine. When I get into deeper water I loose bottom and it starts ranging to 500-1000 fow. This is with my Lowrance X65. I switch my locator to my Lowrance X75 and I have the same problem. I hook them up to my transome transducer and they both work fine. Has anyone else experianced this problem??? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

nope, no problems that way. If you need to try another transducer, ala capt ron from last year MWC, give a hollar. You can test with this to determine if its the units or the universal sonar.

Since both are kinda bogus, me thinks it may be the universal sonar.

You must have the sonars set on Auto Depth Ranging and maybe Auto Sensitivity? Try going fully manual or adjust the sensitivity manually by increasing it when going into deeper water. I find any sonar works better with the auto settings off.
