bought a boat, downriggers and support equipment, when is it safe to go out of waukeegan and winthrop for coho? is spring fishing mostly at the top or with downriggers, help a novice please

Most of the good fishing is still south, launch at 95th street and fish the harbor and the state line plant. Body baits for trolling and squid on a twister tail or tube jig (white) under a bobber works well also. Waukegan starts to heat up in the 3rd or 4th week of April. Trolling body baits is a good way to start. All your fish will be taken off the top ten feet of water for the most part but that all depends on how quickly the water heats up. Your best bet is to go back to the old CLF boards and read through the archives.
