Yeah, the turn around that corner was pretty sketchy untill I bought waders taht went a little higher up on my chest. Curse my average stature. Nice pic.
<font color="#00FFFF"> THERE ARE SOME REAL NICE UNDERCUT AREAS UNDER THOSE ROCK OUTCROPPINGS.SMALLIE HEAVEN IN THE CREEK.WAIT TILL MAY.WHEN I WAS 17, I WAS COAXED INTO JUMPING OFF OF THAT PERCH (YOU ROCK CREEKERS KNOW WHERE I'M TALKING ABOUT) AND THERE IS ONLY A 5X5 HOLE THAT'S SAFE--WELL, MY TUBBY ASS MISSED THE HOLE AND SHEARED OFF 1/4 INCH OF MY SHIN.NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS DONE FISHING AND OFF TO THE HOSPITAL.MY DAYS OF SUPERMAN ARE OVER NOW.JUST FISHIN'</font>
LOL, I have always wondered if people get hurt doing that.I have seen quite a few do that, and never saw anybody miss. Thanks for the laugh.Me and Bassman know of a couple more spots in the area that you can hurt yourself while fishing, without doing any jumping.
Actually the whole Rock Creek area can be dangerous if you're not careful. Back in my drinking days, I slipped on a rock and sustained a major cut in my hand. Of course we know that one bleeds like a stuck pig in certain "conditions". The concession building staff took 15 minutes to find a first aid kit....which only had a few tiny band-aids.
DOH!

YES-SUSTANING A HAND INJURY IS VERY PAINFUL--BUT YOU HAVE AN EXCUSE---I WAS STONE SOBER.NO POT,NO BOOZE,NO NOTHING BUT STUPID MIKE TRYING TO PROVE HIS MANHOOD.ITS AMAZING WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN THE OLD TESTOSTERONE KICKS IN.(LOL!)
Razzo,

I have been looking for Rock Creek for a longtime and am unable to find it. Can you tell me where or How to get there from HWY 55. I usually wade the Fox River, but love the Kankakee any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Gonefishin

Gonefishin,

I am primarily a Fox Rat too. Hope to learn K3 soon though. From Int 55:

Pass over the DesPlaines River (1st Bridge)

Before the second bridge for the K3 take the exit to Wilmington.

That "road" will intersect with Route 53. Go right.

Take Rt. 53 into Wilmington.

Turn left at the light for Route 102.

Once you get to the K3 State Park keep your eye out. When you pass over the bridge for Rock Creek go in the first park entrance on the right.

Wind your way back to the Creek.

You should be able to park by the consession stand which is near the foot bridge that goes over the creek.

Sorry, I don't know the name of that Park entrance.

Good luck and enjoy,
Razzo

I'm a big fox river smallmouth fisherman myself, how does the Kankakee compare to the Fox? Fish quality, quanity?
Thanks for the info Razzo I will give it a shot.
The Kankakee is the best smallie
river in the state.
RIGHT ON OLD' CREEKY KNEES!!

BUT FOR REAL, THERE IS REALLY NO OTHER RIVER IN THE STATE THAT CAN PRODUCE THE QUANITY AND SIZE OF SMALLMOUTH CONSISTANTLY LIKE THE KANK.IF ANY OF YOU HAVE FISHED "LAKE OF THE WOODS", ONTARIO; THE ACTION IS ALOT LIKE THAT ON A GOOD DAY.I CAUGHT OVER THIRTY FISH ONE SPRING DAY LAST SEASON.THE REASON WHY ITS SO GOOD IS BECAUSE OF THE CONSERVATION PROGRAM--THE MORE EDUCATION ANGLERS GET, THE BETTER THE FISHING WILL BE.ANGLERS NEEDS TO RESPECT THE RIVER AND BECAUSE OF GOOD PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELVES', THE SMALLIES WILL CONTINUE TO BITE WELL AFTER I'M GONE.IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING...

Is the wole river wadeable? I live near rt.30 and 55, and I'm looking fo the nearest wadeable spot. Is this rock creek a good place to start?
DURING CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR, A LARGE PORTION OF THE RIVER IS WADABLE.THE KANK STATE PARK IS ALMOST ENTIRELY WADABLE(MINUS A COUPLE OF ACCIDENTALLY FOUND HOLES, DOH!!)ROCK CREEK IS A VERY GOOD PLACE TO START IF YOU WANT QUANITY OF FISH(PLEASE THROW THEM BACK.) I HAVE PERSONALLY DONE BETTER ON THE MAIN RIVER AS FAR AS THROPHIES GO.YOU SEE, THE CREEK IS A GREAT SPAWNING GROUNDS FOR THESE BASS.ONCE THEIR BIG ENOUGH OR THEIR WASHED OUT BY HIGH WATERS, THEY LEAVE THE CREEK.RIGHT THERE AT THE MOUTH AND DOWN STREAM TO WARNER BRIDGE ARE DYNAMITE.WATCH OUT FOR HOLES AND HIGH WATER.(DON'T BE A FOOL)HINT: SOME OF THE SLACK WATER AREAS DURING HIGH WATER WILL CONCENTRATE LARGE NUMBERS OF FISH--I WOULD UTILIZE THE WALK PATH THAT AZARELLI CONSTRUCTION MADE THROUGH THE WEST SIDE OF THE PARK.IT CAN BE DEADLY.PS. DON'T TELL ANYONE--(LOL!)REMEMBER--THE KANK IS A GOOD FISHERY BECAUSE GOOD PEOPLE PROMOTE GOOD CONSERVATION.PASS IT ALONG,DUDE...

Cammando, drop me an email. I've been
fishing the K3 for 30 years, I can put
you on some nice spots.
Thanks for the info Stinkbait. And just to let you know I always practice catch and release.
THAT'S WHAT US K3 ANGLERS LIKE TO HEAR!!

<font color="#00FF00">BESIDES, HOW GOOD DOES BASS ACTUALLY TASTE AFTER A FIGHT LIKE THAT??? I AM ALL FOR SELECTIVE HARVEST, THOUGH. LET'S FACE IT, YOU HAVE TO WEED OUT SOME THEM TO PRODUCE TROPHIES.NOTHIN'BEATS THE SIGHT OF A SMALLIE TAIL WALKING ACROSS THE WATER IN EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING.THIS IS THE PLACE BOYS AND GIRLS.</font>

HOW GOOD DOES BASS ACTUALLY TASTE AFTER A FIGHT LIKE THAT???
OK, so now I've gotta bite on this one...What possible effect do you think the "FIGHT" has on the "TASTE"???? I know a "slow kill" will make Venison tough as all the blood is pumped into the muscles as it trys to flee but in all the years I've been fishing (40+) I've never heard it applied to gamefish? Or were you merely stating the fact that Smallies are a great fighting fish, and then asking how they taste...generally speaking?

PS. they taste OK if you get them from the right water, but there are much better eatin' fish...like PERCH!
<font color="#FF00FF">
YOU ARE VERY FUNNY BOBBY HICKS!

YOU JUST ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION MR MODERATOR SIR...

YES, I'M SURE BASS TASTE GREAT FROM THE RIGHT WATERS, BUT ITS VERY HARD FOR ME TO DESTROY SOMETHING THAT MAKES ME FEEL SO GOOD.I DON'T MEAN TO GET ALL TEARY EYED' CAUSE I'M A DEER HUNTER AND I DON'T MIND KILLIN'.IT'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT A BRONZEBACK THAT I CAN'T FIND MYSELF ABLE TO FILLET.CRAPPIE????WALLEYE??CATS????HELL YES.I LOVE THIS FISHING BOARD AND THE SMARTASS'S THAT POST ON IT(LOL!)
