Fished Skokie Lagoons today from 12:00pm - 2:00pm. Light S/SW winds, air temp 49F. Water level was average to high. Fished near the dam and just north of it on the east banks. Casted into cover, along shore, and in open water. Tried casting chartreuse spinner baits, jig w/ pumpkinseed lizard, and jig with pumpkinseed twistertail. Tried the standard SLOW retrieve and tried a recommendation from March In Fisherman article that suggested ripping fast retrieve in early spring works. Whoever wrote that article should be hung, drawn and quartered!!! NOTHING! NADA! Except some salad. Might still be too early, maybe wrong presentation. Will go back tomorrow and post again, hopefully better luck. Does anyone have any advice for this area during spring.:)16

Some of the articles in that magazine are great but others are there to just pass time....Seriously how much can you write about. I wont talk to bad about the magazine itself as I have met Al Linder and he is an awesome guy but come on !

Try hitting the dams for wallye. I never have any luck, but last year I saw two guys and a kid come out of the woods with a bucket of walleye they caught on minnows. If you get lucky, with this let me know, I'll bring a 12 pk!

Last year I used a floating Rat-L-Trap, fairly fast and I caught fish, but not until the end of April.

It depends on a lot of conditions, so your test of it failing doesn't mean the article is wrong.
