Smelt fishing in the chicago area has pretty much turned into a snipe hunt.
I've heard dip netting in lake superior is still productive.I was told they wade with a dipnet (size where do you get one)and have a
washtub floating in an innertube to scoop the
smelt into.Does anyone know about this or
is this another snipe hunt. THANKS

Not sure about Lake Superior but we used to do that on Lake Huron a few years ago. Annual thing up at Singing Bridge. Lots of fun when there running. The wash tub and net is the way we did it at the mouth of a creek that they run up every spring. I've never seen the way they do it here in Chicago until I got here with the gill nets.
