DocHall is right. White bass don't normally start until after the sauger are finished spawning. On the Illinois River, the white bass start biting when the water temps are about 50, and up. Thats normally the last two weeks of April or so, and on into May.

Hey we caught over a dozen large whites yesterday(good friday) above peru by the new bridge they are building. We pulled minnows in 8 ft. Could have caught more but we move back out deeper to get sauger. Largest whites of the year can be caught RIGHT NOW!

I was out at starved rock on saturday the 30th, we caught atleast 30 white bass, just by casting the shore with shad raps. most were good sized. the wind was really bad and we had to fish areas that were somewhat sheltered from the wind.
