If the Cubs were 73 and 51 instead of 51 and 73, Lou would not be going anywhere... just sayin'

I find it hard to believe that Sandburg is the best candidate for the job. If they hire him it is more for PR than anything else.
You're correct!
I'd love to see Girardi come to Chicago. He already has a World series title in New York... what would he prove by staying in NY?
If he were to win a world series in Chicago he would be an instant, eternal hero.
My next pick would be Joe Torre

Why would Girardi, or Torre for that matter, want to come to the Cubs? Giaradi has a great team in NY. Lots of talent. Ownership with bottomless wallet and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

Torre's not doing as well in LA as he did in NY. Less talent in LA(?) How good would either do with the Cubs?
The Cubs team is a looong way away from just making the playoffs let alone the WS.
Their best players are Castro and Byrd (possibly Colvin)--and not much beyond that. Who are their starters for next year? The bullpen is a mess.
I don't know why Sandburg, Torre or Girardi would want the job.

If you ultimately think Sandburg would make a good manager, don't hire him now. Hire a stop-gap manager and then when you get out from the ARam, Fukodome, and Zambrano contracts, you position yourself for your next run (you got Soriano for a while). If someone hires Sandburg, you let him go and get him back when you're ready.

Here's an idea- trade Marmol. What good does a closer do for a team that has no shot at contention? Could you package Marmol and ARam just to unload that bad ARam contract? Or how about Marmol and Zambrano? I think the Cubs have at least two more lean years before they can start to rebound.

Aram "might" still be a productive player. IMO, he can still drive in runs. Granted, he's having an terrible year, but, I like his chances to bounce back.
I DO like the idea of trading Marmol. Again, IMO, he walks too many guys, to be a solid closer. He runs up his pitch count.
Plus, this team doesn't need a big name closer, next year.
Trading Marmol and Zambrano staright up would be ok--but, I doubt any team would take on Zambrano's contract. The Cubs would have to eat a LOT of that money. Tho, Marmol just might bring back some young starters.
I think the Cubs will have to get used to seeing Soriano in left field for at least another year. Another bad (Hendry) contract.
