Crazy carp!

Ok....so I'm out fishing today for pike with the 'ol #5 Mepps....missed 2 short strikers (ugh) and of course came upon lots of carp in the shallows near the shoreline. I happened upon a monster over 10 pounds and as a joke as I was reeling in the 'ol Mepps I decided to run it near its mouth and THEN....it vacuumed my Mepps right into its mouth! So I mumbled "uh-oh" to myself and had to set the hook on her and then all hell broke loose......screamed my drag out to mid-river and an awesome battle was on. Luckily I had a nice medium action rod and PowerPro line so I was able to control the fight but there were some powerful runs that were amazing. Had the shakes after I finally lifted her on shore. I estimated her at about 12 pounds because I've caught tons of carp on corn since I was a kid and it had that 12 pound look to her.
Most carp spook when your lure gets near them but this one sucked my lure up without hesitation. That was fun.

The cat was a very dark color...almost completely black. I wonder what's next? Very cool.
If it was really dark grey, and had a bigger than normal head - probably a male in spawning colors. Catfish are predatory fish as well so no suprise they would chase an 'minnow' imitation. The carp on the other hand is a new one! Cool story, thanks for sharing! :)2

Geez...was out yesterday from 6pm to about 7:15pm with the 'ol #5 and lo and behold I now ended up catching a 16 inch channel cat?! It's hilarious to be catching all of these species on the trusty Mepps.
