saw an ad for a used daiwa tournament ss 1300 spinning reel, looked at cabela's and bass pro for reviews and they are pretty good but there is no mention of "instant anti-reverse", if it doesn't have it, what does it have ?

That reel has been around for awhile. It doesn't have anti-reverse and it has play in the spool. A lot of salmon guys like it becuse it is such a tough reel with a great drag. If you are bass or walleye fishing you'll probably be disappointed in the smoothness of the reel. If it's the SSII that is a completely different reel and it is excellent all-around. Both are black and gold.
