OK even better Braidwood question then

As nobody seems to know if the lake will remain open, here's a better question.......
Does anyone still even fish Braidwood?

 

I spent an entire day there and it was a waste of my time.

 

I used to fish there with my kid for cats and gills. Once that gets boring, Ill try Mazonia or the KKK river. It seems that it gets boring sooner and sooner every year. The bass fishing is literally non existent, and the cats are never very big. Something is way wrong with that lake and its about time they figured it out. I hope thay close the lake if necessary, and give us the old Braidwood back.

 

I've got another problem. I have been crazy about fishing ever since I was able to walk. I have finally invested in a boat and I don't have much opportunity to use it. My boat has a 50 hp motor and I live in Westmont. After doing much research I have found three lakes that I can use my boat: Braidwood, Heidecke, and LaSalle. I fished Braidwood and it was really bad, Heidecke was OK caught a nice cat but was bad for bass, and haven't had a chance to fish LaSalle. I want to know of a lake that I can take my boat and actually have an opportunity to catch a bass or two.

There I said it I had to get that off my chest. Any thoughts?

 

I live very close to the lake and have heard nothing about the lake closing. The clean-up is on the north side of the lake directly north of the Kankakee discharge on Smiley Rd. not at the lake area. The bass fishing has actually been good the last couple weeks and should remain good until the water temps skyrockets in late June. Cranks and carolina rigs work best in the rearing pond area and quite a few fish are being taken on the north rip rap wall before all the bank fisherman get situated.

For the guy wanting other waters to fish: You can fish Mazonia North and South Units and catch a variety of species including bass, bluegill, perch, catfish, pike and crappie. The Mazonia Units are just south of Braidwood southeast of Godley. The north unit is trolling motor only, but the south unit lakes allow idle only fishing w/ the big motor. These lakes offer beautiful clear water and scenic views that makes for a great day of fishing. Hope this helps.

 

From Westmont you can get to the Kankakee easily, that's a great fishery. You can also go north to the chain, not too bad on weekdays, and if you're looking for a longer ride but still right around two hours there are a bunch of great lakes in Southern Wisconsin. Delavan, Okauchee, Nagawicka are all good lakes for bass and northern.

 

The last tourney i heard of on Braidwood it took like 17 pounds to win. It sounds to me like the fish are still there you just have to change the way you fish for them.
