Was at a meeting today and got some inside information about the peotone airport, heard that if approval doesn't happen in at least a year from now, it probable won't happen at all. we can only hope.

I've been doing research on the Peotone airport for my Speech Comminications class. To me, it seems that Peotone is hardly being considered anymore. The FAA has taken it off its list of potential locations, thus eliminating any federal aid. Also, if the FAA were to provide funds for the airport, it's estimated that they will only provide between 5 and 10% of the cost.

It has also been made clear by all of the major airlines that they do not want an airport in Peotone.

I'd be interested to know what kind of meeting that was. Contact me privately if you wish.
I can say that Federal funding has been approved for Phase II of the Environmental Impact Study, which is expected to take up to 2 years to complete.
Of course Phase I already approved the taking of the land (for the purpose of building an airport). If an airport is not built, the State will still own the land, and what they do with it after that is anyone's guess.
We are hoping that with the new political climate, we can get them to stem the eminent domain proceedings until the EIS is complete, and you can bet this time around some of us will be scrutinizing that information.

Curious how one of the blue signs on the northbound lanes that tells us about local businesses got knocked done this spring and is still down but the airport signs were fixed immediately!!!!

I guess there is no money in the budget to help promote the local guys.

IDOT chief Kirk Brown is planning his "post Ryan" life as we speak. Employment in the private sector will most likely be with one of the many companies that has done contract work for the state. The 55 year old engineer has been with IDOT since he graduated from college.
Since July, Brown has quit putting his signature on contracts for
consulting work with the department.

As for Brown consulting on the airport project, he claims that his expertise would not be needed until about 2 years from now.
